WATER, WATER, WATER! Sitting 60 miles between Wickenburg and Kingman is the Big Sandy Ranch with 1,577 acres and 813 acre feet of water rights. Three of the four parcels are bisected by the Big Sandy River consisting of 80 acres, 640 acres and 217.8 acres. The northern two river parcels sit just north of the confluence with Burro Creek. The fourth parcel sits just west of the Big Sandy River and is 640 acres. The Big Sandy River is classified at this stretch as perennial flow (ADEQ, USGS). Historically irrigation water has been diverted from the river into a irrigation pond to irrigate the properties. This is some of the best riparian habitat in the southwestern United States along the Big Sandy River. Elevations are generally classified as 1,450' to 1,600' for the parcels along the river and 1,800' to 2,100' for the parcel off of the river. The parcels are laid in a checkerboard fashion with intermixed BLM parcels of public land. Historically 400 acres has been irrigated on the parcels though not that much ground has been irrigated in recent times.
