The Powhattan is a luxurious 1929 landmark designated building. It is considered the best example of Art Deco residential architecture in Chicago. Designed by renowned architects Robert De Golyer and Charles L. Morgan at the height of the Roaring 20s, The Powhattan provides the elegance of an era gone by. This spacious, 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom residence features magnificent herringbone hardwood floors, beautiful moldings, plaster walls, elegant high ceilings, panoramic views of Lake Michigan and Chicago's lakefront is designed on a grand scale with decorative fireplace, and a formal dining room. Each bedroom has an en-suite bath and walk-in closets. The Powhatan's thirty-eight apartment owners and their guests enjoy its Art Deco lobby, exquisite top-floor ballroom with grand piano and kitchen, two entertaining terraces with grills and seating for outdoor entertainment, stunning Art Deco indoor swimming pool & fitness room, round-the-clock door person and elevator attendants and valet parking. There are only two apartments per floor; each has a separate attended elevator. The spacious bathrooms and kitchen allow the buyer to custom design them to their taste. During 2016-2017 the kitchen and pantry were replaced at a cost of approximately $140,000, including a Sub-Zero refrigerator with two freezer doors, Wolf Dual Stainless Steel ovens with convection and steam, Wolf six burner gas range, stainless steel exhaust vent, stainless steel sink, and the best self-closing Cabico Custom Cabinetry for the kitchen and the pantry featuring a full-size LG Inverter Direct Drive Steam Washing Machine and LG Sensor Dryer. Central air-conditioning was installed for approximately $30,000. Two bathrooms were renewed with all new fixtures and showers. Thousands of dollars more were spent on painting and refurbishing the apartment. The Powhatan is beyond comparison. The monthly assessment includes parking, real estate taxes, all amenities, and 5-star service. Substantial capital improvements have occurred over the past decade to bring the infrastructure of this landmark to enhance its value. Woodburning fireplaces are no longer used at the Powhatan. This fireplace has a natural gas line that may be used in the future for gas logs.
